Castine Community Health Services to Offer Tobacco Cessation

Release Date: 10/16/2016

The group will meet every Thursday for four weeks, ending on Thursday, November 17, to mark the “Great American Smokeout Day”. The meetings will be held at CCHS from 4:30 to 6 pm. All community members are welcome to join. A book and handouts are provided free of charge. The cessation class is designed to help people stop using any tobacco product. The class is based on the book, Smoke Free in 30 Days, by Daniel F. Seidman, PhD. According to Dr. Seidman, “The physical addiction isn’t the highest hurdle to overcome. The higher hurdle for many people trapped in an addiction to tobacco is the loss of emotional confidence. Many truly believe that they need cigarettes and other tobacco products to get by in life.” Gordana Hassett, LCSW, CADC, encourages interested community members to sign up and gain knowledge, confidence and commitment to face life’s big and small stressors without cigarettes and other tobacco products. The participants will learn the basics of quitting, how to handle personal triggers, explore medication option supporting tobacco cessation and develop a relapse prevention plan. Community members interested in more information about the program should contact Castine Community Health Services at 207 326-4348.
