Health Education at BHMH


Blue Hill Memorial Hospital's Community Health Education Department provides health information, instruction, and self-care learning experiences for the residents of our region. Many offerings are free of charge or provided at a low cost. For more information about health related information, please contact our Health Education Coordinator at 374-3472.

HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAMS

We offer programs and/or resources on the following topics:

  • diabetes
  • stress management
  • smoking cessation

We also promote an ongoing, low-impact, strength-training class ("Get Strong ... Get Healthy") at the times/locations listed below.

  • Blue Hill St.
    Francis Episcopal Church
    Monday/Friday 7:30-8:45 a.m.
    Monday/Wednesday 5:30-6:45 p.m.  
  • The Brooklin School 
    7:30 – 8:50 am M/W/F
  • Brooksville Community Center 
    Monday/Wednesday/Friday 7:30-8:45 a.m. 
  • Castine Emerson Hall
    Tuesday/Thursday 8:00-9:15 a.m.

The workout is the same in all locations; you may attend any class that fits your schedule. Be sure to wear loose clothing, comfortable shoes and bring a bottle of water and a towel. All equipment is provided. Enjoy the benefits of working out regularly with a supportive group of friends and neighbors. 
 
Cost: Only $5 per class or $40 for nine classes (you get one class FREE).

PREVENTIVE HEALTH SERVICES

We provide the following services:

  • Community CPR classes
  • Healthy Presentations (based on request and availability)
  • Walking Programs
  • Registered Licensed Dietitian
  • Registered Nurse Educator (also a Certified Diabetes Educator)

Our Community Health Education Department also coordinates with Healthy Peninsula Project on healthy initiatives for residents of our communities.
