About Blue HIll Memorial Hospital's Medic Alert System

About Blue Hill Memorial Hospital’s Medic Alert System

The Medic Alert System provides both comfort and security knowing the medic alert assistance can be summoned when the subscriber cannot get to or use the telephone.

The system consists of a console linked to the home telephone line and a small hand activated transmitter (the Personal Help Button) carried by the user.  The console and personal help button are manufactured by Philips Lifeline and are owned by Blue Hill Memorial Hospital Medic Alert.

When the personal help button activates the console, it automatically calls the monitoring center.  An operator at the center will first attempt to contact the subscriber through the speaker on the console.  If the subscriber is not able to communicate through the console, a telephone call is then made to the subscriber’s house.  If the subscriber does not answer, a list of responders within five to ten minutes of the house is notified.  If they are unavailable, emergency medical assistance is summoned and an ambulance comes.  The list of local responders is provided to Medic Alert by the subscriber at or before the time of installation.  The monitoring center is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Installation depends upon the subscriber having a private functioning telephone line, an electrical outlet near the telephone, and a modular telephone jack.  The console contains a rechargeable battery which is designed to provide temporary power for 24 hours.

Installation and maintenance of the Medic Alert equipment is provided by a trained staff of volunteers associated with Blue Hill Memorial Hospital. Billing for this service takes place on a quarterly basis.

To initiate installation, or for additional information, call Dave Nordberg at (207) 667-6756 or Blue Hill Memorial Hospital (207) 374-3400, whereupon, the Hospital will then have one of the Medic Alert volunteers contact you.
