BHMH Diagnostic Imaging Department pairs a highly-skilled, caring, certified staff with state-of-the-art technology right in your own backyard. Our professionals are dedicated to delivering care of outstanding quality with personal attention.

The diagnostic Imaging Department at BHMH has completed the film to digital transition. With all digital equipment we can acquire images with greater detail and definition in a shorter time.

Our department utilizes PACS, a digital archive system. Through PACS our patient's images can be viewed by their doctors or providers affiliated with Blue Hill Memorial Hospital or any other facility associated with Eastern Maine Medical Center. This improves patient care and continuity of care.

We offer the following services within our department:

CT Scan: With our multi-slice CT scanner we are able to have scans be more comfortable and easier for patients while acquiring high quality images.

Bone Density Screenings: We offer Bone Density Scans for osteoporosis screenings and are anticipating the arrival of a state-of-the-art DEXA scanner.

Echocardiograhpy: We offer echos on Wednesdays and hope to expand our coverage in the near future.

Mammography: We use a state-of-the art full field digital mammography machine. This technology is the best available for those younger than 50, pre-menopausal, peri-menopausal and menopausal women and for women with dense breast tissue. Digital mammography allows for quicker detection of breast abnormalities. Mammography images will be stored digitally making it simpler for patients who need further care at different facilities. Because there is no processor time involved in acquiring the images women can get their appointments done quicker and enjoy the rest of their day.

Mammopad®, a warm, soft cushion placed between the breast and the mammography machine.

MRI: We offer MRI on Fridays in a mobile van at the Sussman Medical Office Building.

Ultrasound: Our sonographers perform abdominal ultrasound imaging, obstetrical and gynecological exams, vascular studies, examining veins and arteries, as well as small part ultrasound including thyroid, breast, and testicular studies. Our sonographers have received advanced certification in multiple areas of ultrasound imaging.

X-Ray: We have two digital X-Ray rooms, one in the Hospital and one in the Sussman Medical Office Building. Having two rooms allows for patient convenience for out-patients and also enables Emergency Room patients to be done more quickly. We also offer fluoroscopy and have a state-of-the-art fluoroscopy machine in the hospital x-ray room.
