Blue Hill Memorial Hospital and S. Craige Williamson, M.D. partnered in 2005 to establish a center of excellence in upper extremity orthopaedics at the Blue Hill hospital. The Hand and Shoulder Center (HSC), is a specialty center devoted to the care of patients with hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder injuries. The HSC is the only such center in Northeastern Maine.
The Hand and Shoulder Center is fully integrated with therapy services provided by BHMH's Rehabilitation Department. Some of the services the HSC provides include treatment for work-related injuries, sports injuries, fractures, neuropathies, tendon, nerve and ligament injuries and arthritis, repetitive motion disorders.
"As chair of the Hospital, I know that our specialty center for upper extremity orthopaedics fits perfectly with our mission to provide primary and selected specialty healthcare of outstanding quality," said Stanley Bergen, Jr., M.D., Chair of the BHMH Board of Trustees.
Dr. Williamson, previously of Frenchman Bay Orthopedics, is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon with fellowship training and over 10 years experience in upper extremity surgery. He is a resident of Blue Hill and, as a musician, has a particular interest in hand injuries common to musicians.
"Dr. Williamson is a surgeon of rare skill and devotion, who is committed to providing care of excellent quality," said Timothy Garrity, CEO of Blue Hill Memorial Hospital (BHMH). "Such care can only occur in a setting where the surgeon is provided with a great team, devoted to operational excellence both in the outpatient setting and surgical suite."
