Dr. Thomas Bugbee has been appointed the new Chief of Staff (COS) at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital. The COS acts as liaison between the medical staff and the hospital administration. Dr. Bugbee will be responsible for overseeing peer review, medical staff credentialing, and insuring medical staff quality improvement efforts. He assumed the two-year appointment in November.
"I have been in Blue Hill for 13 wonderful years, carrying out many of the things I had always hoped to do in family practice in a rural setting like this. I have been present at many births, cared for many people in all stages of their lives, been part of the vibrant community of Blue Hill, and I have enjoyed a large, robust group of patients in my practice with whom I feel very close. I have felt fortunate to serve with a truly excellent medical staff, at such an excellent little hospital. I feel accepting this appointment is my way of giving something back."
Dr. Bugbee is a graduate of University of California Davis Medical School and received his undergraduate degree from Reed College in Oregon. He completed his residency at Lancaster General Hospital where he was honored with the Charles Bair Award for Outstanding Residency in Family Practice.
“We are delighted that Tom has accepted this position,” said Amy Dobson, Director of Outpatient Services. “We know he will do an excellent job.”
"Personally, this is a challenge to me to organize and improve my skills in leadership, diplomacy and tact, communication and interaction with physicians from other institutions-- all things a COS is called upon to do,” Dr. Bugbee related. “ It is important for me to do so while serving my patients and working throughout the hospital as a practicing doctor, and being a good husband and father to my family."
Blue Hill Memorial Hospital is dedicated to providing primary and selected specialty healthcare of outstanding quality, caring for patients with respect and compassion, and improving the health of the communities it serves.
