Beginning June 5, 2006, Philip A. Macy III, MD will join Island Family Medicine as a “locums tenens” – or temporary – physician. Dr. Macy will cover the practice of Joe Babbitt, MD who is leaving IFM to become a Hospitalist and Emergency Room physician at BHMH.
Amy Dobson, VP of Clinical Services at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, is glad to have him aboard. “We are excited to have Dr. Macy at Island Family Medicine. He will provide the support we need, as we work with the Island Medical Center Board to find the right fit for the island.”
Dr. Macy is not new to Maine. Eleven years ago, at the start of his medical career in Family Medicine, he did a family practice residency at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. He’s happy to be back in Maine. “The place and the people you work with are more important than anything else,” he says. “Not every place is like Deer Isle and Stonington, Maine.”
After graduating from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology, Dr. Macy was a Master's degree candidate in Molecular Genetics and a graduate teaching assistant at State University of New York at Buffalo. He received his Doctor of Medicine from Thomas Jefferson Medical School in Philadelphia. His career has included an internship at Southwestern Texas Medical School, a fellowship in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at Pennsylvania State Medical Center, and his own family practice office in Massachusetts. Most recently Dr. Macy was a physician at Duffy Health Center, a walk in clinic for the homeless and poverty-stricken in Hyannis, Cape Cod.
