Healthy Peninsula Project, in collaboration with School Union 76, is pleased to announce the 2005 awards for groups working with youth to carry out community or school-based projects aimed at providing alternative activities for youth.
Deer Isle-Stonington Elementary School Arboretum- $200
2016 Class Tree Project Kindergarteners will plant a tree on school grounds and take care of it throughout their school career.
Peninsula Pan, Inc -$300
Grant will help to keep the Planet Pan youth program free to students from any community.
Island Heritage Trust Summer Intern - $500
Grant will help fund a summer intern who will work with the Junior Stewardship program and the Island Community Center’s Day Camp.

To develop a kit to teach team building and sustainable agriculture.

To fund healthy food for making snacks with first and second grader during their 3 week study of the human body.

Horse of Course 4 H Club - $250
The club will invite an equestrian yoga instructor to 4 H Horse Camp this summer to teach the 25 attendees techniques that benefit both horse and rider that they can then pass on to others.
Coastal JayHawks Travel Basketball - $300
To support an extension to the season for a team of players from several Peninsula and Island towns.
Holbrook Island Sanctuary State Park - $270
To purchase a GPS unit and topographical map software to be used by staff and summer interns to train local youth in mapping.
George Stevens Academy Flex-time Activities - $500
To support stipends for instructors and for student-provided hospitality for “Your Future Matters” presentations. A desired outcome is establishing infrastructure for increased community involvement at GSA that may extend into after school options.
Deer Isle-Stonington High School Nutrition Team - $250 to support the new team with funding for buying food for demonstrations and inspirational, educational materials to promote healthy food choices.
Sedgwick School Garden Club - $300
To support further institutionalization of an existing garden program, involving 8th graders as leaders in charge of garden maintenance.
Surry Elementary School - $500
To go towards materials and equipment for a community skating rink to be built by the fire department nearby the school.
Blue Hill Heritage Trust - $400
To fund a portion of the stipend of a summer intern who will expand the outreach of the trust with programming for and projects with children and youth.
Nichols Day Camps - $500
To support their second annual triathlon, a family event at the Camp that actively introduces the community to resources of the Camp. Camper from the Island Recreation Center’s Kamp Kooky will join Nichols Day Camp kids in preparing for the event.
Adams School - $500
To fund milling of the lumber and other materials for a student and staff built cabin on school grounds that will house nature experiments, growing seedlings for a school garden and studying watershed issues of the Bagaduce River.
Step Dancing Program at Blue Hill Consolidated School - $250
To support Bob McCormick’s continuing summer study of Cape Breton Step Dancing at the Gaelic College in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. This adds depth to his teaching and has inspired some of his students and their families to also seek further instruction in Cape Breton.
Blue Hill Peninsula Karate - $350
To fund a series of after school classes at the Penobscot School, building on interest inspired by an introductory class offered by the Explorers Club.

For start-up funding to prepare the existing greenhouse for school and community use.

To support the continuing development of the Fit Trail by the student group that works with the adult trail committee.

Island Community Center, Inc - $400
To support bi-weekly game nights and teen nights, partnering with School Health Coordinator to prepare healthy snacks with kids and with HPP C4CY Vista to bring a youth empowerment model to the teen programming.
