Hancock County HomeCare Welcomes New Hospice Manager

Blue Hill & Hancock County HomeCare & Hospice is pleased to announce Maureen Giffin as the new hospice manager. Ms. Giffin is a registered nurse and certified oncology nurse with more than 23 years of oncology clinical experience.

Ms. Giffin worked as a Bone Marrow Transplant Nurse at New England Medical Center in Boston before moving to Maine.  A Certified Lymphedema Therapist, she founded the Maine Lymphedema Network, Maine's only statewide non-profit organization that provides education and resources for healthcare professionals and patients regarding the care and treatment of lymphedema.  Ms. Giffin is also the President of the Northern Maine Oncology Nurses Group as well as serving on the boards of the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center, and the Maine Cancer Coalition.

"We are pleased to welcome Maureen to our team," explains Kathy Lirakis RN, Director of Hancock County HomeCare & Hospice. "She comes to us with a very diverse background and she will be a wonderful addition to Hancock County HomeCare and Hospice."

Explains Ms. Giffin, "The focus of hospice care is to honor life within a circle of care by bringing together medical, psychological, social and spiritual services. Hospice care is based on a philosophy that emphasized quality of life when cure of a serious illness is no longer possible. We can provide care whether at home, in an assisted living or at one our local nursing homes. As hospice nurses, we've witnessed the courage, the honesty, the caring, and the love of our patients and their families.  It is humbling to be present at such an intimate and poignant time in people's lives."

Ms. Giffin replaces Barbara Daigle, Family Nurse Practitioner. Ms. Daigle is currently practicing at Bucksport Family Medicine, one of Blue Hill Memorial Hospital's Peninsula Primary Care clinics.

Hancock County HomeCare & Hospice tradition of home care services spans more than 73 years, beginning with the establishment of Four Town Nursing in 1931 and Bar Harbor Public Health in 1945.  Their goal is to provide expert healthcare services to patient in the comfort and privacy of their own homes.
