Brooksville resident, Bob Wohlsen, just had a great checkup with his doctor. He credits the good news to his dedication to the Blue Hill Hospital's Get Strong…Get Healthy program. The program, which started at the Brooksville Community Center in February of 2004, has been a success largely due to the efforts and participation of Brooksville community members like Bob.
He decided to join the class because "I was not in the shape I wanted to be in and I thought a group class might be a good way to get the exercise I needed." Bob explained further, "When I was younger, I was able to keep fit on my own. But at 57, I realized that exercise wasn't as easy as it used to be."
By joining the class, Bob has been able to make exercise a regular habit, which he feels was a very important factor in his success. "The regularity of the classes is important. By attending classes regularly, I noticed little improvements in my health that add up over time. Yard work wasn't as hard as it used to be. I have more muscle tone. I realize that it must be because of the class."
In addition to a great workout, the class also offers camaraderie with other community members, which is important when trying to stick to an exercise routine. The class has a group of "regulars" who enjoy getting together after class for a good breakfast.
If you're wondering what Bob's checkup results were, he revealed "I've lost 18 pounds and my blood pressure (which wasn't all that high before) also went down. I feel stronger than I used to be and I know I'm in better shape." |
