BHMH Receives $25,000 Grant from Davis Family Foundation

The Davis Family Foundation awarded Blue Hill Memorial Hospital a $25,000 grant for technology needs. The funds will be used to purchase and replace 20% of all computers at the hospital and physician practices BHMH operates.

“Something peppy here,” says Information Technology Manager, Jesse Larrabee. “Our goal is for our employees to have the best possible tools to foster increased patient safety and operational efficiency.”

This equipment is part of an overall three-year Technology Plan that has the following objectives: Modernize communications systems throughout the entire organization; establish state-of-the-art software application; and maintain modern, functional hardware.

The funds from the Davis Family Foundation will be used to fund the third objective.
The Davis Family Foundation is a public charitable foundation established to support educational, medical and cultural/arts organizations located primarily in Maine.

The grant was given in response to a proposal that BHMH submitted earlier this year. BHMH invests all donations to its annual fund into medical equipment and technology for the hospital and physician offices in Bucksport, Castine, Stonington, and Blue Hill.

“Because of this,” says Tim Garrity, BHMH CEO, “we consider every gift an investment in the health of our communities. When someone gives to BHMH, they are purchasing equipment that will last for years and help us serve our patients better.”

Garrity continued, “A grant like this has a huge impact. We serve everyone with a single, high standard of care – regardless of ability to pay. Because so many local residents do not have health insurance – or have limited coverage – we face special challenges in fulfilling this commitment. Capital needs are especially difficult to fund, with so many of our resources being diverted to cover direct care for the uninsured or underinsured.”

The goal for the hospital’s annual fund is $400,000 this fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2006. This grant brings the total raised thus far to $185,416.
