On the last page of BHMH's first annual report published in 1930, you can find the following request:
The hospital needs a larger endowment - Will not those who have been interested in the Hospital provide by legacy for a continuance of their bounty after they have passed away?
Seventy-five years later, the BHMH Foundation has established the Heritage Society to recognize those who have included the Hospital in their long-term plans through a bequest or other planned gift. The Society honors the tradition of generosity that began in 1930 when Dr. Raymond Bliss first made the above appeal for community members to provide legacy gifts to the Hospital.
Those who make planned gifts are called Heritage Society members because they are helping to secure the future of BHMH as well as its primary physician practices: Blue Hill Family Medicine, Bucksport Family Medicine, Castine Community Healthcare Services, and Island Family Medicine. Blue Hill Memorial Hospital Foundation also supports public health initiatives, health education, community wellness efforts, and disease prevention programs.
The Foundation welcomes bequests, charitable remainder trusts, securities, real estate, life trusts, and /or life insurance policy.
Blue Hill Memorial Hospital is dedicated to providing primary and selected specialty healthcare of outstanding quality, caring for our patients with respect and compassion, and improving the health of the communities we serve.
BHMH invites community members to join the Heritage Society. To learn more, contact Lynn Boulger, Director of Development at (207) 374-3411.
