Helen Burnett, Health Education Coordinator, is the first quarter winner of the Gold Standards Employee of the Quarter at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital (BHMH). Susan Young and Martha Cole who nominated Ms. Burnett said, “Helen has brought many fresh ideas, insight, and creativity to enhance her role. She has assumed new responsibilities, instituted a number of new initiatives and is open to new challenges. We have worked in hospitals for a combination of 62 years, and in that time, neither of us has ever met a person as consistently creative, positive and accommodating as Helen.”
Ms. Burnett, who has been with BHMH since 2005, moved to Maine with her husband, Wayne, from Cape Town, South Africa, where she taught home economics at a private girls’ school. In her current role, Ms. Burnett coordinates patient activities – including visits with the Hospital’s pet therapy volunteers – in addition to organizing health and wellness programs, including an annual Women’s Wellness Day. When she learned of her nomination, Ms. Burnett said “It was a big surprise, a lovely surprise, and it really is an honor to be selected. I am very lucky – I love my job and I really enjoy working with Sue and Martha and everyone at BHMH.”
The hospital started the employee recognition program in January 2006 to reward employees who reflect the highest achievement of BHMH employee standards. The Gold Standard Behaviors are the right attitude; etiquette and courtesy; safety; protecting privacy and confidentiality; excellence; commitment to our values; and teamwork.
