Blue Hill Memorial Hospital will host Mothers Connecting With Their Babies, a Mother/Child Mindfulness program by parent educator, Nancy Hathaway, M.Ed. The program begins July 9 and will meet every Wednesday from 1 – 2pm in the hospital’s Brownlow Conference Room through December 17, 2008. The program is free of charge and all mothers and babies (0-8months) are welcome.
Ms Hathaway’s program is modeled after the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D., at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, MA. Each session includes time for mothers to connect to one another and to their babies through simple and fun exercises.
“Mothers Connecting With Their Babies is a program that supports mothers who want to explore being present with their children,” Ms Hathaway explains. “Mothers paying attention to this moment right here, right now—no matter what is happening—is what children really want. This simple but rare act is also an investment in the mother/child relationship that aids the child’s learning, self-esteem, confidence, and coping skills for life.”
